HYDERABAD/LAHORE: A court in Hyderabad on Saturday granted bail to Mir Hassan, police constable, who subjected a woman and two children to torture on a moving train near Hyderabad on April 7.
The suspect was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Munir Ahmed, who approved his bail plea against a surety bond of Rs35,000
The Railway Police had arrested Hassan for torturing the woman aboard the Milat Express train on April 7, 2024. She was severely beaten by the constable in the presence of other passengers who played the role of silent spectators. The constable was arrested on Saturday when a video of torture went viral on social media. As the video spread, many people criticized not only the Railway Police but also the silence of other passengers who were unable to save the woman from the constable’s uncontrolled wrath. Social media influencers demanded legal action and psychological tests for all police officials so that such incidents could be avoided in the future. Constable Mir Hasan was arrested following the circulation of the video depicting the incident on social media. DIG South Abdullah Sheikh reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards unethical behavior and said the response by the authorities highlights their commitment to addressing such misconduct. He promised that both legal and departmental actions will be taken.
