A team of the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) conducted a raid in Karachi’s District East in the wee hours of Thursday and imposed fines on a bakery and two restaurants.
The operation was led by SFA Director-General Agha Fakhar Hussain. According to a statement issued by the provincial food authority, the operation took place before dawn and a fine of Rs150,000 was imposed on a bakery while another fine of 125,000 was imposed on two branches of a restaurant.
The SFA said the fines were imposed due to unsatisfactory cleanliness conditions in the bakeries and eateries. The authority also inspected chicken shops and excess perishable chicken meat was discarded on the spot.
Multiple shops were also issued improvement notices. “No compromise will be made on health standards,” said Hussain. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who did not comply with the standard operating procedures of the food authority.
