The Super Highway leading from Karachi to Hyderabad was completely closed for three hours as traders and citizens protested against rising robberies on the highway on Thursday. After police assurance, the road was reopened for traffic.
In Karachi, citizens and traders feel unsafe in the doorways of their homes, on the streets, or even on the main Super Highway near the Jamali flyover.
Everyday robberies have made it difficult for distressed traders and the public to conduct business or travel. Travellers on the Super Highway say that the police have failed in crime prevention, and it’s the public that suffers losses.
“We have been stuck in this traffic since morning,” they said. Upon reaching the scene, the police negotiated with the protesters.
Police said that the culprits involved in the incident would be arrested soon, and patrols would be increased. Police negotiations were successful, and the protesters reopened the Super Highway for traffic.
