Pakistan is in the throes of the worst economic logjam today mainly because of political instability and the rule of the unpopular governments. Although a newly elected government has taken the helm, the instability persists and looks set to continue in the near future. The incumbent government looks to be following the same path as the preceding caretaker government. It has decided to largely dismiss the allegations of fraud and rigging in this year’s elections and has chosen not to probe the matter, thus far.
The government must demonstrate maturity and magnanimity and focus on this issue seriously. If the government is still reluctant to take any concrete steps in this regard, the future of the incumbent political set-up may be uncertain or may not achieve the desired targets.
