The new political coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif is in place in the centre and appears to be trying to undertake some reforms on an expeditious basis to improve the economic condition of the country. The induction of a renowned banker in the federal cabinet as a new finance minister is reflective of a serious attempt on the part of the incumbent political set-up to promote an economic turnaround and boost the monetary infrastructure. However, the most concern for the nation, in my view, is the potential threat posed by the new spate of terrorism, which has exasperated every patriotic citizen of the country.
The martyrdom of the seven personnel of the armed forces in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, attacks on naval base in Turbat and killing of Chinese engineers in a suicide blast in Bisham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa point to a troubling situation. These incidents have damaged the reputation of our country at the international level. The government must take all the political stakeholders on board regarding the serious challenges confronting the country with particular reference to the fresh wave of terrorism and formulate a joint strategy to eliminate this menace once and for all. If we continue to indulge in political wranglings and blame-games, then the state will neither gain economic stability nor security.
