Islamabad: Former Foreign Secretary Jauhar Saleem has taken over as President of Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) here Friday.
He replaces Nadeem Riyaz, another career diplomat, as IRS President. Earlier, Mr Saleem worked in Ministry of Foreign Affairs at various posts including as Special Secretary, Additional Foreign Secretary, Head of the Foreign Service Academy and Director-General for European Affairs. He also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany, Italy, Bosnia and Bahrain, as well as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD, and the World Food Program (WFP).
He was elected President of 38-member countries International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) in 2020 which he served till 2022. Mr Saleem studied English Literature, International Relations and International Economics at Government College University, University of Pennsylvania, and Johns Hopkins University. He also did a fellowship at Georgetown University and was visiting faculty member of universities in Europe and America. Mr Saleem also contributed regularly to print and electronic media as an international relations expert.
