JAMRUD: Two sisters, Zeejaj and Mehroosh, residents of New Abadi area in Khyber district’s Jamrud tehsil, have devised an innovative method to address a rat infestation issue in their household.

The siblings, perturbed by the presence of large rats causing damage to their belongings, including clothes, shoes, books, and valuable electronic devices, decided to take matters into their own hands.

Despite trying various commercial rat poisons with no success, the family resorted to an unconventional solution. Utilising expired medicines, including antibiotic tablets, powder, and liquid antibiotics, the sisters concocted a mixture which they then combined with tomatoes. They placed this mixture on thick paper pieces and strategically positioned them in rooms and corners of the house, hoping the rats would consume it.

Their experiment yielded positive results. By the morning, the rats were found deceased throughout the house, having ingested the expired medicines. Zeejaj and Mehroosh expressed their satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting how their household items were now safe from the rodent menace.

Encouraging others not to discard expired medicines, the sisters emphasised the effectiveness of repurposing them as rat poison. They believe that these expired drugs have proven to be the most efficient method for eliminating rats, urging others to adopt similar measures rather than wasting such resources.
