CHARSADDA: President of Awami National Party (ANP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aimal Wali Khan, has completed the formalities to contest the Senate elections from Balochistan.
The sources said the nationalist leader has changed the address on his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) with one in Quetta. His new address is Arbab House, Khoidaad Road, Tehsil and district Quetta.
It is a requirement to be a registered voter in the province to contest the elections for the Upper House of Parliament.
His bid for the Senate seat from Balochistan is not a rarity as several influential persons from other federating units have been elected to the Senate from Balochistan in the past.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief had contested the National Assembly election from his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan in KP and Pishin district of Balochistan on February 8, last month. He returned to the lower house of parliament from Pishin.
Aimal Wali is the son of ANP chief Asfandyar Wali, grandson of Abdul Wali Khan and great grandson of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan.
He ventured into electoral politics by contesting the July 25, 2018 general elections. He later tried his luck in 2022 by-polls and February 8 general elections this year but could not succeed.
