KEMU VC awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz
LAHORE: King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayyaz was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his valuable services in the field of education.
Prof Mahmood Ayyaz has been conferred the honour for his outstanding services in the field of medical education of Pakistan, his determination and intelligence, and in recognition of his valuable services to Pakistan in the field of medical education and for bringing the institution to first place in the university ranking.
He dedicates this award to his teacher, Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry. Prof Mahmood Ayyaz specialises in advanced laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery in the Department of General Surgery and is one of the founders of robotic surgery in Pakistan. He is one of the leading robotic surgeons in the country and abroad. He has performed more than 300 successful robotic surgeries. He has also been the former Principal of SIMS and Director General Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA).
Prof Mahmood Ayyaz is the first educationist who introduced trauma courses in Pakistan and spread these courses all over Pakistan. He has trained thousands of post-graduate doctors and surgeons across Pakistan, published international articles, and contributed chapters to foreign surgical books. Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, as Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, established a Student Facilitation Centre in a short period, launched an e-log monitoring system, converted Quaid-e-Azam Block into a solar system, and recently established a BioBank and Artificial Intelligence Lab. Under his patronization, the work on academic, research, and other development projects is going on rapidly at the university and its 9 attached hospitals.
Due to his efforts, the students of King Edward Medical University have secured the highest number of seats under the US Residency Programme this year, while the university's scientific journal, Annals of KEMU, has also received the Impact Factor status. Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayyaz is determined that the university should achieve its highest position in the field of medical education and research in the coming years.
FJMU's Prof Dr Bilquis awarded Pride of Performance award
Head of Department of Medicine, Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir's exemplary services at the national level were recognised and awarded with the Presidential Pride of Performance Award.
Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir is serving as the Head of the Department of Medicine, Dean of Nursing, and Director, Quality Enhancement Cell at Fatima Jinnah Medical University. On March 23, 2024, a prestigious ceremony was held at the Governor’s House in which she was awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance Award in Public Health by Governor M Baligh-ur-Rehman. Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir played a significant role in the establishment of the Telemedicine Department at King Edward Medical University and Fatima Jinnah Medical University, exemplary services in the Department of Telemedicine during the Corona pandemic, and the construction of more than 300 houses, community centre, schools, training centre, and dispensaries in the flood-affected areas of 2022, especially in Kashanibasti, Rajanpur.
Being the Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell, she played a significant role in securing Fatima Jinnah Medical University, a prominent position in the global rankings. Remember, Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir also has the honour of being the Best Graduate of Fatima Jinnah Medical University.
Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir has been awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance Award as a result of all these valuable and exemplary services.
