20 new E-libraries to be established in Punjab
LAHORE:Punjab Youth Affairs Department is planning building 20 new E-libraries in different parts of the province. Presiding over a meeting at Punjab Stadium on Monday, Minister for Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said apart from E-libraries the Chief Minister Internship Programme would also be initiated in the province. Secretary Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial and DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal briefed the meeting on mega projects, sports calendar, endowment fund and targets of the department.
Addressing the meeting, the minister said the distribution process of Sports Endowment Fund would be made transparent. He said: “Under Sports Endowment Fund, every possible help will be extended to deserving players from across the province.”
He said the Punjab Sports Department is going to build 300 sports grounds across the province. “We will build new sports complexes in 18 tehsils of the province and a total of 113 out of the 322 sports infrastructures will also be refurbished,” he maintained.
He said the Contact Body Sports Centre, refurbished National Hockey Stadium, Shahkot Gymnasium and Hockey Stadium in Faisalabad and seven sports projects will be inaugurated in the near future. “Besides this, 16 development sports schemes will be completed within the next three months.”
The minister said a Department of Maintenance and Repair is being established soon to protect and maintain the sports infrastructure. He said “The establishment of the first Sports City in provincial capital is also part of our planning”.
He said there will be full focus on the welfare of the athletes. “We are taking effective measures to improve Punjab’s sports in accordance with modern requirements,” he added.
The meeting also discussed planning of mega projects for the development of sports culture across the province. Project Director PMU Qaiser Raza, Additional Secretary Farhan Farooq and other officials also attended the meeting.
PU awards PhDs to seven scholars
Punjab University has awarded PhD degrees to seven of its scholars. According to details, Sobia Mushtaq has been awarded PhD in the subject of Botany, Sonia Hanif in the subject of Mathematics, Sarbiland in the subject of International Relations, Ayesha Khan in the subject of Mathematics, Shahzeb Khurshid in the subject of Commerce, Sana Safdar in the subject of Zoology and Bushra Mahmood in the subject of Sociology.
