Growers asked to adopt
modern techniques to enhance productivity

FAISALABAD: University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan has asked the growers to adopt modern techniques to enhance their per acre yield.
He said this while addressing a wheat harvesting ceremony held at a farm of the varsity here on Sunday. Director Farm Dr Farooq Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Riaz Ahmad, Endowment Fund Secretariat Director Prof Dr Zaheer Ahmad, Academics Director Dr Ghulam Murtaza, External Linkages Director Dr Rashid Ahmad and Amir Saeed Rana were also present. The VC said that there was a huge gap between ordinary and progressive farmers in terms of per acre yield. We had to increase our productivity from an acre, he said and added that the government had launched a campaign under which free tractors were being distributed among high yield producers in every district. He said that the farmers using traditional techniques were the hurdles in progress in terms of getting maximum productivity. UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the population of the country was increasing with a large pace and in the coming decades, it would be doubled, which was alarming. He stressed upon the need of creating awareness and farmers cooperatives mechanism for increasing per acre yield of crops. He said that Faisalabad then Lyalpur was like a sand dunes a century ago but digging the canal system and establishment of first-ever Agriculture College and Research Institute put the sand dunes into a lush green fields. The VC also planted a tree to encourage the tree plantation at the farm. Director Farm Farooq Ahmad Khan said that latest technologies would not only increase the productivity but also help ensure food security. He said that the UAF was making all-out efforts to exhibit the modern tends before the farming community.
