GUJRANWALA: Azhar Qayyum Nahra of PMLN was declared the winner on Thursday after recounting in NA-81 Gujranwala.
In the general elections held on February 8, Bilal Ijaz, an independent candidate of PTI got 117717 votes and won with a lead of 7,000 votes against his opponent Azhar Qayyum Nahra.
Later, the results were challenged by Nahra and the Election Commission ordered a recount at 75 polling stations of NA-81.
After recounting, Azhar Qayyum Nahra of PMLN was declared the winner by 3197 votes as he got one lakh 10 thousand and 57 votes, while PTI-backed Bilal Ijaz secured 1 lakh 6 thousand and 860 votes and got the second slot.
As the result was announced, jubilant PMLN workers started celebrations with the beats of drums and slogans.
Last day on March 13, PMLN candidate Khan Bahadar from Jaranwala PP-100 declared winner after recounting of the votes.
From this constituency, PTI candidate Chaudhry Umair Wasi Zafar was declared the winner with a lead of about four thousand votes and the notification of his success was issued.
However, on the application of the losing candidate of the PMLN, Khan Bahadar Doggar, the Election Commission ordered a recounting which held on March 12 at the office of the Election Commission, Faisalabad. After recounting, the PMLN candidate secured more votes than the previous and was declared as winner.
