POA asks PTF to produce ILTC constitution
The POA has written a letter (POA-097/PTF/529) to PTF President/Secretary and stated that they have received reports
KARACHI: Pakistan Olympic Association has intervened in the controversy regarding the elections of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) and has asked PTF to provide key documents to the POA.
The POA has written a letter (POA-097/PTF/529) to PTF President/Secretary and stated that they have received reports on the said elections of PTF from POA’s observer and Asghar Nawaz, the candidate for the position of President PTF.
“We are in receipt of interim/provisional ‘Representative Report’ received from M Shafiq, Treasurer POA/President Pakistan Handball Federation, Representative of POA who attended the Elective General Council meeting of PTF held on 10th February 2024 in Islamabad.
“We have also received observation on PTF Elections from Maj Gen (R) Asghar Nawaz, the candidate for the position of President PTF. The both letters are hereby forwarded for your information and necessary comments/feedback along with following documents to proceed further,” stated POA in its letter. The documents POA has asked PTF to produce are the constitution of International Lawn Tennis Club of Pakistan (ILTC), minutes of the last elective meeting of ILTC, and its activities.
Earlier, POA’s observer M Shafiq submitted his report to POA’s Secretary General in which he stated that he would like to request POA that PTF/ILTC should provide constitution of the ILTC and minutes of the last elective meeting of ILTC and its activities.
Shafiq in his report narrated the proceedings of the elections and informed the POA that he was deliberately kept out of the full proceedings of the election by PTF Secretary Gul Rehman. “I reached PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on 10th February at 11am as the representative of POA and met Gul Rehman, Secretary General PTF, and I demanded documents as per POA directions.
“He took me in the President PTF office and handed over me some papers and other papers he told that he would provide me later on. He then went to the meeting room and told me that he would call me when the meeting was going to start.
“I waited there for one hour till 12 noon and nobody contacted me and I telephoned to your good self [Secretary POA] on this situation and you advised me to contact Gul Rehman and consequently I contacted him and he told me to come in the meeting room as meeting had started.
“When I reached the meeting room the election process was continuing. During the election process I asked about International Lawn Tennis Club nomination because Saeed Ahmad being President of ILTC nominated Mian Ali Qayum as representative of ILTC whereas on authority letter the name of Saeed Ahmad was mentioned as Hony Secretary and Khawaja Saeed Hai as President.
“The same point was also raised during the meeting by a member of the house. Gul Rehaman replied that the matter had been resolved by the Chairman Election Commissioner as he accepted the nomination of Mian Ali Qayum and PTF Council will decide the matter,” stated Shafiq in his report.
