NOWSHERA: A police constable and his companion were martyred by unidentified motorcyclists near Babu Khan Mosque on Kheshgi Bala-Charsadda Road here on Sunday.
Station House Officer, Nowshera Kalaan, Kiramat Khan told reporters that he was on way to the cattle market in Kheshgi Bala when he met his nephew Abdul Waheed and his friend Constable Muhammad Ashfaq.
He said that he was talking to them when two unidentified persons riding a bike came there and opened indiscriminate fire on Abdul Waheed and his friend Constable Muhammad Ashfaq. As a result, Abdul Waheed and his friend Constable Muhammad Ashfaq sustained multiple bullet injuries and embraced martyrdom on the spot.
The SHO said that the assailants fled the scene after committing the crime.The police registered a case under Section 7 ATA and started an investigation.Meanwhile, funeral prayer for the martyred cop Muhammad Ashfaq was offered at the Police Lines, Nowshera.
Regional Police Officer Muhammad Suleman Khan, District Police Officer Muhammad Azhar Khan, Superintendent of Police (investigation) Alamzeb Khan, social and political figures and a large number of people attended the funeral prayer.
Later, the body of the martyred cop was taken to his native and laid to rest with state honours. The police have constituted a special investigation team headed by SP (investigation) Alamzeb Khan to probe the murder of the cop and his friend from various angles and arrest the accused involved in the heinous crime.
