‘Comprehensive policy made for wheat purchase’

FAISALABAD: The Punjab government has devised a comprehensive policy with the consultation of farmers’ organisations for the purchase of wheat in a transparent manner by providing all possible facilities to wheat growers.
This was stated by Punjab Labour Minister/wheat procurement campaign incharge of Faisalabad district Raja Ashfaq Sarwar during his visit to a wheat procurement centre here on Saturday. The minister inspected the arrangements at the center and reviewed Bardana issuance process. He also met the farmers and said that the Punjab government had taken several steps for welfare and betterment of the farmers. He said that the Punjab government had set a target to purchase 4 million tons wheat and Rs 130 billion had been allocated for this purpose. He said that the Punjab CM had given the Kisan Package of Rs 100 billion, which was a remarkable and historical step of this government for prosperity of farmers and development of agriculture sector. He assured the farmers that their rights would be protected and no one would be allowed to exploit the farmers during the wheat procurement campaign. The minister said that Punjab ministers, secretaries and other high rank officers were supervising the wheat procurement campaign. Deputy Director Food Shafiullah Khan informed the minister that 149,000 metric tons wheat would be purchased in the district for which comprehensive arrangements had been made at all 11 purchase centers. He said that the officers of the district administration were supervising the arrangements while dispute resolving committees had been made active for the smooth process of wheat procurement.
