ABBOTTABAD: The Board of Governors (BoG) meeting of the Ayub Medical Teaching Institution (AMTI) convened by the chairman here for Friday was postponed for lack of quorum.

The BoG meeting was chaired by Chairman Mushtaq Jadoon. But only two members — Dr. Aftab Rabbani and Ayaz Khan Jadoon — were present there. Four other members of BoG, including Asad Khan Jadoon, Javed Turk; Fawad Saleh and Syed Jafar Shah, did not turn up.

BoG AMTI Secretary Hamid Khan, when contacted, confirmed the meeting postponement for lack of quorum.Asad Khan Jadoon told this correspondent that Section 6 (3) of the MTI Act required a minimum of four out of seven members to hold any BoG meeting.

He said there was a dispute amongst the BoG members after the resignation of its chairman. It was followed by some allegedly controversial decisions including reinstatement of two employees terminated a few years back.

He went on to say that unnecessary delay in the issuance of notification by the KP government about the acceptance of the resignation of the chairman of the BoG complicated the situation followed by a letter issued by the section officer of the Health Department about the resignation of Mushtaq Jadoon.

It has been learnt that Mushtaq Jadoon, Dr. Aftab Rabani and Ayaz Khan argued that the chairman could continue to work till the notification of acceptance of resignation.

Whereas Asad Khan, Fawad Saleh, Javed Turk and Syed Jafar Shah had a different stance and claimed that after the resignation from the slot, the chairman had no authority. They argue that his resignation had already been accepted by the former caretaker chief minister.

The 95th board meeting of BoG held on March 2, which was also attended by Asad Khan, Fawad Saleh and Jafar Shah and chaired by Javed Turk had reversed the decision of BoG to reinstate two employees.

It is worth mentioning here that the BoG AMTI secretary circulated the invitation to all BoG members on the telephonic direction of Mushtaq Jadoon first on March 6 which was later rescheduled for March 8 at 11.30 am.

When contacted BoG Member Fawad Saleh said once the resignation of BoG chairman was accepted, he had no lawful authority to convene a meeting.

He believed that the proposed meeting was meant to reinstate two terminated employees of AMTI, including a former hospital director who even failed to get relief from the MTI Tribunal.
