150 US scholarships given to DG Khan students
US Mission in Pakistan sponsored programmes related to English learning in three cities including Faisalabad, Multan and DG Khan
LAHORE: US Consul General in Lahore Kristin K Hawkins has said the Punjab province has tremendous economic potential. Through youth empowerment, not only the local population will receive help, but it will also have a positive impact on the country's economy, she said while addressing a programme related to granting scholarships to 150 students of district Dera Ghazi Khan, in collaboration with the Ghazi University here on Thursday.
Hawkins said the US Mission in Pakistan sponsored programmes related to English learning in three cities including Faisalabad, Multan and DG Khan. She said command on English language opened opportunities in both professional and personal lives of the individuals.
She said that 20th anniversary of the English learning programmes under the aegis of the US was being celebrated and nearly 27,000 graduates were completing the course successfully.
Hawkins said the programme helped students hailing from humble background and aged between 13 to 20 in learning English skills.
She also said the USA also had a long working partnership with the Islamia University Bahawalpur and the US also provided grant for repair of the building of Faculty of Education destroyed in flood nearly a decade ago.
