This letter refers to the news report ‘Kibor falls on inflation surprise; rate cut looms’ (March 5, 2024). The report claims that inflation fell to 23.1 per cent in February from 28.34 per cent in January. However, the ground reality is that the power and gas tariff, petrol prices and the cost of several essential medicines have all been jacked up.
Consequently, the prices of many basic items have shot up and, although the rate of the increase may have slowed last month, the financial burden on the people remains as unbearable as it always has been over the last few years.
