IHC bench hearing DC’s plea against contempt conviction dissolved
The chief justice said that one of the judges of the two-member bench had recused himself and a new bench would be formed to hear the appeals
ISLAMABAD: A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court, headed by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, hearing an intra-court appeal against the six-month jail sentence of former Islamabad deputy commissioner in a contempt case, has been dissolved. The hearing will be held again after the formation of a new bench.
On March 1, Justice Babar Sattar had suspended the DC for one month and said in the judgment that if the judgment was not suspended on the appeal within one month, the officer would be jailed.
A two-member division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court heard the intra-court appeals of deputy commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon and others convicted in a contempt of court case.
The chief justice said that one of the judges of the two-member bench had recused himself and a new bench would be formed to hear the appeals. The DC’s lawyer, Raja Rizwan Abbasi, requested that the court should fix the case for tomorrow (Wednesday) before a new bench. He said a verified copy of the single bench verdict had been attached. However, the chief justice said, “Not tomorrow, but your case will be fixed for hearing later.”
