LAHORE: The first general body meeting of Punjab University’s newly-elected Academic Staff Association (ASA) was held here Tuesday which discussed academic, economic and administrative problems faced by the university and their possible solutions.

PU-ASA President Dr Amjad Magsi presided over the meeting which was attended by faculty members. Taking into account the suggestions and opinions given by the participants, President ASA presented resolutions regarding various issues, which were unanimously approved.

It was resolved through a resolution that the letter issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) would not be accepted and selection boards would be ensured as soon as possible as per all previous recruitment advertisements.

In the wake of the lifting of the ban from ECP, there was a demand to re-issue the advertisement for the vacancies of the VCs. The meeting demanded the Punjab government appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor and regular deans of faculties in PU while the e-governance system should be implemented in university.

The meeting observed that the Punjab University was facing irreparable financial loss due to the unabated increase in electricity prices day by day, it was therefore decided that the project to shift the departments to solar energy should be started immediately.

The house also observed that Punjab University could not afford to start any new campus according to the current financial situation; therefore, it was decided that the university administration should reject the Daska campus proposal and the university discourage establishment of any new campus until financial stability. In the light of various proposals regarding Town 3, it was resolved that a workable action plan should be formed in this regard.
