ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has no objections to the appointment of Senator Ishaq Dar as the finance minister.
According to a senior leader of the PPP, PMLN is in the driving seat and it is PMLN’s prerogative to whom it selects for the cabinet from the party. “We have never objected to any individual,” the senior PPP leader said. He said the party had never raised any objections to persons but to their policies.
PPP insiders said Senator Ishaq Dar was heading the team that negotiated with the PPP for the formation of government. They said even in the past Senator Ishaq Dar and PPP leaders had always maintained good political relations. “Though PPP did have reservations about some of his economic policies in the 16-month-long coalition government, these were expressed whenever needed,” the senior PPP leader said. Meanwhile, PMLN Secretary General and senior leader Ahsan Iqbal said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif saved the country from default during the last Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government. Talking to the official news channel, he said PMLN had a comprehensive plan to get the country out of this quagmire, increase the country’s resources and tax collection.
“The country will be put back on the track of development,” he added.
About the Pakistanis living abroad, Ahsan Iqbal said that they were the country’s asset and they had always played an important role in its development.
