KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) will jointly organise a series of events to promote trade and cooperation among South Asian countries from March 7 to 9, 2024, in Lahore.
The events include the SAARC Bazaar, a three-day exhibition of traditional crafts and products from the region’s cottage industry, and the Women’s Business Conference, a one-day forum to discuss the role of women in driving regional progress.
Atif Ikram Sheikh, president FPCCI said the SAARC Bazaar, which will be held at the Lahore Expo Center, will showcase the diversity and richness of South Asian culture and heritage, while empowering entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly Pakistan's cottage industry.
"By including participants from the cottage industry, SAARC Bazaar is aimed at highlighting the diverse array of traditional crafts and indigenous skills within the region, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage while promoting economic empowerment," Shiekh said.
He added that the SAARC Bazaar will also strengthen the ties and cooperation among the SAARC member states, which include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. "SAARC Bazaar will provide a unique opportunity for international exhibitors and buyers to establish partnerships, enhance networking and expand market outreach beyond boundaries."
The Women’s Business Conference, themed “Invest in South Asian Women: A Path towards Regional Progress”, will highlight the challenges and opportunities for women in various sectors, such as technology, education, health and finance, and explore ways to foster partnerships and drive sustainable growth across the region.
