An anti-terrorism court on Friday remanded a suspected militant of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for questioning in cases pertaining to possession of explosive material and illicit arms.
The investigating officer produced Mir Owais before the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts and sought his physical remand for interrogation. The IO stated that the suspect was arrested during a raid in the Naval Colony area and a hand grenade, one kilogram of explosive material, a dead coat wire detonator, and a Kalashnikov were recovered from him.
He said that the suspect was planning terrorist activities in Karachi as he had also been involved in attacks on an FC check post and shrines. The IO said the suspect is required to be investigated about his suspected involvement in terror activities, for which his custody is required. The judge handed over the custody of the suspect to the IO until March 6 with a direction to produce him on the completion of the remand.
The CTD has registered two FIRs against him under sections 4 (punishment for attempt to cause explosion, or making or keeping explosive with intent to endanger life or property) and 5 (punishment for making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances) of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 23(i)(a) of the Sindh Arms Act read with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the ATA.
