An online food delivery rider was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday. The incident occurred near the University of Karachi within the jurisdiction of the Mobina Town police station. Unknown individuals shot and killed the young man, identified as 22-year-old Waqas Hanif, son of Hanif. Waqas, a resident of Al-Mashriq Society in Gulzar-e-Hijri area, was the only brother of three sisters. At the time of the incident, he was conversing with his cousin Ovais over the phone.

According to Waqas’s cousin, Ovais, Waqas did not resist or indicate any robbery attempt before he was shot and killed. Ovais initially thought Waqas had an accident on his motorcycle during their conversation, but it later became apparent that he had been shot. Ovais described Waqas as a good person with no known enemies, leaving the motive for the murder unclear.

Initially, there were speculations that the killing resulted from a mugging attempt, but the police did not support this theory. They found Waqas’s belongings, including his mobile phone, purse, charger, hands-free device, and motorcycle, at the crime scene.

An empty shell of a 30-bore pistol was also recovered and sent for forensic analysis. The victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, and the police were investigating the incident for possible motives. No case has been registered yet.
