PESHAWAR: Lahore Garrison University secured victory by defeating the University of Central Punjab in the final match of the All Pakistan Inter-University Tug-of-War Tournament, which concluded at the main ground of the historic Islamia College here on Wednesday.
The chief guest, Director of North-West Hospital Hayatabad, Malik Abdullatif, distributed trophies and cash prizes among the distinguished players of the event. Also present were Director Sports Islamia College University Mohammad Ali Shah Hoti, President Provincial Tug-of-War Association Taj Mohammad, Technical Officer of Pakistan Tug-of-War Federation Akram Gujjar, Director Admission Islamia College Aamir Izhar, along with Firdos Khan, Naved Ahmad, and Mohammad Nawaz.
Under the patronage of the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, the tournament saw its semi-final and final matches played at Islamia College on Wednesday. Lahore Garrison University triumphed over the University of Punjab Lahore in the first semi-final, while the University of Central Punjab secured victory against the University of Lahore in the second semi-final.
Interestingly, all semi-finalist teams represented universities located in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab.Another match between the University of Lahore and the University of Punjab resulted in the latter clinching the third position in the tournament.
The chief guest commended the event organisers for arranging a healthy activity and said such events kept students physically and mentally strong.He highlighted the role of universities in producing the best players in various sports and expressed satisfaction in witnessing active participation in sporting events across the country. He said sports would protect the younger generation from negative activities, he said.
He praised the Higher Education Commission for sponsoring the tournament and commended Director of Sports Islamia College Ali Hoti for the exceptional arrangements that contributed to the event’s success.
