SCCI demands goods transport terminal in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has demanded the provincial government to allocate 500 kanals of land for the establishment of a dedicated terminal for goods transporters in the provincial capital.

Fuad Ishaq. the SCCI president, urged the federal government to ensure equal enforcement of the Axle Load Policy across the country.During a luncheon hosted for him by the Peshawar Goods Carrier Association (PGCA) on Monday, Fuad announced the formation of the Goods Forwarding Standing Committee at the chamber level.

The event was attended by SCCI senior vice president Sanaullah Khan, former president Faiz Muhammad Faizi, former vice president Shuja Muhammad, executive members of the chamber Kashif Amin, Hamza Ibrahim Butt, Monawar Khurshid, Ihsanullah, Saddar Gul, Ishtiaq Muhammad, Faiz Rasool, secretary general Sajjad Aziz, Peshawar Goods Carrier Association Chairman Iftikhar Ahmad, patron-in-chief Haji Sanaullah, president Hussain Khan, general secretary Aizaz Shahid, Small Industrial Estate Association Kohat Road Peshawar president Wahid Arif Awan, SP Traffic Saeed Khan, Haji Ghaffar, and members of the business community associated with goods transport.

Reiterating his commitment to resolving issues faced by goods transporters, the SCCI chief

said the goods transport sector is crucial for the smooth functioning of the economy both locally and globally.

He assured that the chamber would actively address their issues with relevant authorities at both the central and provincial levels.

Fuad Ishaq chief called for the equal enforcement of the Axle Load Policy nationwide and stressed the necessity of establishing a dedicated training school for goods transporters to enhance their skills and professionalism.

He also called for adherence to traffic rules to prevent road accidents and safeguard precious human lives.The SCCI assured that the concerns raised by PGCA would be taken up with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), National Highway Authority (NHA), police, tehsil municipal administrations, public transport authorities, and other relevant departments.

Earlier, the office-bearers of PGCA raised the issues faced by goods transporters and outlined the future course of action, plans, and objectives of the association.They said the issues were mainly related to FBR, Customs, NHA, police, TMA, as well as transport and other authorities.
