Traffic deaths
In Pakistan thousands of people die every year in road accidents. When we think of security we tend to focus on issues like crime and terrorism. However, we are far more likely to die in a traffic accident given the current conditions on our roads. Having good infrastructure and orderly traffic is no less important to keeping people safe than law-enforcement.
The main reasons for accidents are the substandard conditions of many vehicles, violations of traffic rules, use of mobile phones while driving, underage driving and the lack of fully functional street lights. The government should take effective steps like launching road safety campaigns and messages through the media and giving more training to the traffic police, so that the number of accidents are reduced.
