This refers to the news report, ‘Read laws first, then criticise, says Hussain Nawaz’ (April 5). The Panama Papers have revealed four companies – not two – that are allegedly owned by the children of Nawaz Sharif. The prime minister is not directly named as a beneficiary of any of the companies.
Hussain Nawaz says that since they are one of the 22 richest families, they have no shortage of funds to buy or form offshore companies. The income statement of Nawaz Sharif released by the Election Commission shows that our prime minister has a meagre taxable income. The prime minister has a moral duty to justify his and his family’s means of income. After all there is no harm in being rich while paying all taxes of the land. That said, both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari have betrayed the trust reposed on them by the people of this country.
