ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Secretariat has started preparations for the inaugural session of the 16th National Assembly besides allotting suites to the newly elected members at the Parliamentary Lodges and MNAs Hostel.
The inaugural session of the lower house of parliament is likely to be summoned on February 26 but it depends on the notification of successful members for 60 reserved seats.
As per policy approved by the National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the re-elected MNAs would retain their existing suites.
The speaker is authorized to approve the allotment of suites to the parliamentarians in Parliamentary Lodges and MNAs Hostel.
In all, 109 MNAs have been re-elected and they are being allotted the suites which they were possessing previously. The parliamentarians would be handed over the same suites which they possessed previously.
There are a total of 364 suites at the Parliamentary Lodges and 46 at the MNAs Hostel. Presently, 83 Parliamentary Lodges suites are in possession of senators majority of whom would retire in the second week of the next month on completion of their six-year tenure.
Till the filing of this report in the evening, the CDA teams had got possession of six suites which were not vacated by the previous allottees despite the fact they were not residing there.
A CDA official said they had claimed back suites from Munawara Begum, Salahuddin Ayubi, Ms. Maiza Hameed, Bilal Khan, Sardar Ghulam Abbas and Nawab Sher Wasan.
The sources said the CDA was also working out outstanding dues against the MNAs of the last assembly.
Meanwhile, the facilitation desk established in the Parliament House has so far completed the registration of 70 newly elected MNAs and issued them the membership card.
