Naqvi inaugurates school for transgender children
LAHORE: Taking a revolutionary step to provide education and residence facility to the transgender children, Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the state-of-the-art school named ‘Tahafuz Daras Gah’ near Jallo Park on Friday.
The transgender children will be imparted O & A level education at this school, the first of its kind in the country. The UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board (UKCAB) has established this school in just 18 days time. The CM inspected the classrooms, hostel, rooms and other departments during his visit to ‘Tahafuz Daras Gah’.
He lauded the performance of the UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board team for completing this school in a short span of time. CM was informed during the briefing that education and technical training will be imparted to the transgender children in this institution in a safe environment.
While addressing the inaugural ceremony, the caretaker chief minister stated that the building of this institution is small but its work is remarkable. He appreciated Inspector General Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar for his efforts undertaken for the welfare of the transgender community throughout the year.
IGP Dr Usman established centres for the transgender community and provided them employment as well as many other opportunities. “I would urge the whole team running the ‘Tahafuz Daras Gah’ to devote this institution wholeheartedly for the purpose for which it has been established,” the CM maintained.
Mohsin Naqvi underscored that resolving the transgender community problems is a big issue on which people even do not want to discuss. The UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board team has displayed an excellent practical work and Allah, the Almighty will definitely reward them for doing this noble deed, he added.
IG Police, CCPO, Chairman UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board Zahid Bhatti and members of transgender community were also present on the occasion.
