PMA opposes plan to increase drug prices

LAHORE: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has condemned the recent proposal by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to increase the prices of medicines.

The association criticised this move, stating that it would further burden the already economically strained people. The PMA expressed its concerns regarding the potential negative impact of such a decision. The PMA emphasised that the increase in medicine prices would make healthcare inaccessible to a significant portion of the population, especially those who are already struggling to afford essential treatments. The PMA called for more inclusive and transparent decision-making processes, involving healthcare professionals, patients, and other relevant stakeholders.

The Pakistan Medical Association also emphasised the importance of implementing relevant rules & regulations strictly to prevent the sale and distribution of counterfeit medicines in the country. They called for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to address the issue of affordability and accessibility of medicines in Pakistan.
