ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Sunday afternoon issued the notification of PTI-backed returned candidate from NA-44, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and PK-113, Dera Ismail Khan Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The notifications of eight returned candidates of the National Assembly (NA) and 35 of the four provincial assemblies are yet to be issued owing to different reasons even after eleven days, following the elections held on February 8.

According to the information available with The News, polling was held in 265 constituencies of the National Assembly out of the total 266 seats, as the electoral process was suspended due to the death of a contesting candidate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, NA-8.

Returned candidates of the Islamabad Capital Territory’s (ICT) three NA seats have been notified. Of Punjab’s 141 NA seats, notification of only two is awaited. Notification of all the 61 general seats of Sindh has been issued whereas of the 45 seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), five are yet to be notified, excluding NA-8. Notification of one returned candidate of NA seat of Balochistan is also awaited.

On the provincial legislatures front, notifications of maximum 18 retuned candidates of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly are yet to be issued. The notifications of ten returned candidates of Balochistan Assembly are awaited from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Five returned candidates of the Punjab Assembly are also awaiting notification and two of the Sindh Assembly as well.

Out of the total 593 general seats of the four provincial assemblies, elections were held for 590 while the poll process for three constituencies would be held later due to death of candidates.

The ECP issued the notification of ten returned candidates of the National Assembly belonging to Balochistan, including Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Jam Kamal, Sardar Yaqoob Nasir. Likewise, another 36 returned candidates of the Balochistan Assembly has also been notified.

Meanwhile, the ECP Sunday afternoon issued the notification of PTI-backed returned candidate from NA-44, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and PK-113, Dera Ismail Khan Ali Amin Khan (Gandapur). “The delay in issuance of the notification of this returned candidate was caused by the fact that the returning officer concerned took time to confirm the returned candidate had submitted details of his election expenses,” a source in the ECP explained, when asked why Gandapur’s notification was issued late. Gandapur has been named as the PTI candidate for the slot of chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a related development to the issuance of notification of the returned candidates, the ECP has issued a statement that a facilitation centre has been established at Room No107 of the Election Commission Secretariat here for submission of related documents for joining of a political party by an independent candidate.

According to the ECP, a letter by the head of a political party and affidavit of candidate, who is joining a political party, can be submitted in the facilitation centre.
