PESHAWAR: A police officer deployed with the chief minister as his assistant security chief was martyred along with a friend in an attack in Dargai, Malakand district, on Saturday.
Officials said inspector Wakeel Khan, along with a son and his friend Naseeb Khan, was on his way in Dargai Bazaar when armed motorcyclists opened fire on them.
“Wakeel Khan and his friend were martyred while his son was critically injured and shifted to hospital,” a senior official told The News.
The official said a brother of Wakeel Khan, Saeed, suffered heart attack when he heard the news of the death of his brother and was taken to the intensive care unit. He also expired at the hospital, adding to the tragedy that has hit the family.
An official said Wakeel Khan was posted at the CM House as the assistant chief security officer for a long time. He added the deceased was on leave while the CM was out of the city on Saturday.
Villagers and relatives blocked the road after the attack and demanded of the government and levies to arrest the killers at the earliest. The caretaker chief minister, Arshad Hussain Shah, has sought a report of the attack on his security officer and directed the concerned to arrest the killers.
