Spring trees planted during LGH plantation drive

LAHORE : A green belt has been established at Lahore General Hospital after the completion of hospital’s revamping work to make the environment pleasant and beautiful. Renowned teachers associated with the medical department planted spring trees in this campaign on Saturday.

Among those who participated in the plantation drive were Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Mehmood Ayaz, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Principal PGMI Prof Al-Fareed Zafar, Principal College of Ophthalmology Allied Vision Sciences Prof M Moeen and MS LGH Dr Nudrat Sohail. A large number of faculty members and health professionals were also present on this occasion. Speaking at the event, Principal PGMI Prof Al-Fareed Zafar thanked all the personalities and said that one day these plants will become trees and provide shade and help in making the environment green. He said that with this initiative, new doctors, nurses, paramedics will continue to remember the senior professors associated with medicine.

Prof Al-Fareed Zafar said that plants and trees produce oxygen, which makes the environment human-friendly and useful for health. Planting trees in hospitals is very beneficial for the patients, he said. He urged the doctors to treat the patients as well as create awareness among the attendants regarding social responsibilities so that people can fulfill their social responsibilities.

He said that there is a need for more plantations to control environmental pollution and smog and all citizens should participate fully in this kind of activities. He said that the people of the developed and civilized countries of the world keep the environment green and make it a part of their culture by planting more and more trees. He said these countries do not face as serious as we do with threats like environmental pollution and smog.
