Unfortunately, our education system has been built on rigid and unproductive syllabi that fail to prepare children to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world. Pakistani universities tend to have poor teaching methods and poorly designed curriculums that do not stimulate students’ cognitive thinking, creativity, or skills. Instead, they are immersed in conventional and outdated material. Many of the country’s university students also lack basic reading and writing skills, as the designed syllabi fail to encourage and teach these fundamental abilities. However, in today’s fast-paced world, the ability to read and write effectively is more crucial than ever.

However, many Pakistani students enter university lacking proficiency in these areas, which can hinder their overall learning experience and future prospects. Integrating a course on reading and writing skills into the undergraduate curriculum is a proactive step towards addressing the needs of students and preparing them for success in academia and beyond. By investing in their foundational skills, we empower students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners. Moreover, if the culture of dialogue, moderate discussion, and constructive feedback in the classroom is encouraged, teaching methods will gradually transform over time to further develop students’ cognitive skills.
