The encounter took place when the District East police in collaboration with the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and federal law enforcement agencies conducted an operation in the Sachal area.

According to District East SSP Irfan Bahadur, the raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off and technical information. When the criminals saw the police team, they opened fire with the intention to shoot the cops dead, the officer said, adding that the Sachal SHO who was in a police mobile van narrowly escaped the firing.

SSP Bahadur said that as the police returned fire, two of the assailants were injured and they were arrested. The police also seized a hand grenade, Kalashnikov rifle and pistol from the possession of the arrested suspects who were identified as Shah Hussain, son of Sharam Gul, and Shakirullah, son of Jan Khan.

Two other terrorists took advantage of the darkness and managed to flee, the SSP said, adding that efforts were under way to arrest them. The officer said the arrested suspects had abducted a person, Haris-ur-Rehman, on December 12, 2023, from near the Baqai Medical University in a black Corolla car and an FIR No 569/23 was registered at the Gadap City police station after the abduction.

The SSP explained that in the same case, two other suspects, Abid Rahman, son of Muhammad Sher Khan, and Noor Qasim, son of Ayaz Khan, residents of Bhens Colony had already been arrested and sent to jail.
