HARIPUR: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a policeman near Hazara Phosphate Colony on Kotnajibullah Road here on Thursday evening.
Officials of the Kotnajibullah Police Satiation said that Sher Azam, a police constable currently posted in Police Training School Mansehra, was in his native Chohar village on leave.
On Thursday evening, they said, the cop was on the way to the ground of Hazara Phosphate factory riding his horse for practice of tent pegging when unidentified assailants opened fire on him with pistols, injuring him seriously
The locals shifted the injured constable to Trauma Centre from where he was referred to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad for tertiary care. However, the doctors at the AMC declared him dead.
The officials said that teams have been sent to the area to launch a search operation for the arrest of the accused. They, however, added that the motive behind the constable’s murder was not known. District Police Officer Omar Khan Gandapur, SP Investigation Amjad Hussain Khan and DSP Khanpur Uzair Khan visited the crime scene and directed the SHO Kotnajibullah Police Station to utilise efforts for early arrest of accused involved in the murder of policeman.
