PTI-backed independent MPA-elect from Malir joins PPP
Aijaz Khan Swati, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent candidate who emerged victorious from PS-88 Malir in the recent general elections, has announced his decision to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
In a video message, Swati said he had decided to joining the PPP unconditionally as he hoped that the Bilawal-led party would sincerely work for the development of his constituency. “I am joining the PPP for the sake of my constituents,” he said in the message.
According to the ECP results, Swati clinched victory in PS-88 after bagging 17,580 votes. The PPP’s Muzammil Shah was the runner-up who obtained 12,762 votes. Later, reacting to the development, Karachi PTI President Khurrum Sher Zaman lambasted the party-backed Malir MPA for ditching the party and called him a turncoat. In a statement, Zaman said the PTI had suspended the membership of Swati. He said Swati had won because of the PTI but he traded his conscience after winning the election.
