LAHORE:Hadiara police arrested a senior government officer involved in drug peddling. The arrested suspect, Abdul Ghafoor, was a grade-18 officer. He was involved in drug dealing and would make drug deals online.
He was running a network to smuggle drugs in different districts of Punjab, an initial investigation suggested. Three-kg heroin was recovered from his custody. A case has been registered against him.
Infant’s body found
Body of an infant has been recovered dumped on a roadside in Qila Gujjar Singh. Passersby spotted the body and alerted police. A team reached the spot on information and shifted it to a morgue with the help of Edhi Foundation.
Police recorded statements from the eye-witnesses and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. Police said they were investigating the matter.
Man hit to death
A 40-year-old man died after being hit by a speeding train in Misri Shah. The victim was trying to cross railway lines near Farooq Ganj when hit by a speeding train. He received serious injuries and died. Police removed the body to morgue for autopsy. Police said that the victim’s identity was yet to be ascertained.
Seven die on road
At least seven people died, whereas 1,270 were injured in 1181 accidents in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Out of these, 527 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 743 victims with minor injuries were treated at incident site by Rescue medical teams.
