PTI to challenge polls’ results in SC: Imran
He said political stability cannot be achieved after the controversial elections and urged all parties who had their mandate stolen to unite
RAWALPINDI: PTI founder Imran Khan said Tuesday his party would challenge the election results in the Supreme Court.
He was informally talking to media in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. Referring to the prime minister’s nomination, Imran said a decision has not been taken yet and will “consider it.”
He maintained that the rigged elections would harm the economy and the country’s stability, and free and fair polls are the only solution to the dire circumstances the country finds itself in.
When asked about a meeting with certain senior officials, Imran denied having any meetings.
In an informal chat, former foreign minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said even the international media is raising questions over the recent elections and calling them rigged. He said the PTI is not celebrating its win but asking the powers-that-be not to steal the mandate of the people.
“Even those who have won are not accepting the election results.” Qureshi urged the chief justice to take notice, adding that he and Imran had been kept in solitary confinement after the elections.
He said political stability cannot be achieved after the controversial elections and urged all parties who had their mandate stolen to unite.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan said in a message that the masses had given a two-thirds majority to his party in the general elections.
He expressed his deep gratitude to the people for entrusting the PTI with a resounding two-thirds majority in the general elections, even in the face of harassment and threats, warning against the misadventure of forming a government with stolen votes.
According to the party’s Central Media Department and Imran’s X account, in his message from jail, the PTI foundering chairman said: “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Pakistan for entrusting the PTI with a resounding 2/3rd majority. It was heartening to see the massive turnout. The families voting together—including women and children—truly exemplified the essence of democracy.”
“I would like to especially commend our social media for its relentless efforts to stay ahead of the curve. I also appreciate the role of the resilient polling agents who secured Form 45 in the face of harassment and threats,” he added.
The PTI founding chairman said that, as the people of Pakistan have pronounced their verdict, there is a dire need for democracy and fairness in Pakistan’s elections.
“I warn against the misadventure of forming a government with stolen votes. Such daylight robbery will not only be a disrespect to the citizens but will also push the country’s economy further into a downward spiral,” he maintained.
“The PTI will never compromise on people’s will, and I have categorically instructed my party against engaging with any political party that has robbed people’s mandate, including the PPP, PMLN, and MQM,” he added.
