Contempt proceedings sought against officials
PESHAWAR: The members of the transgender community on Tuesday approached the Peshawar High Court (PHC) seeking the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the officials concerned for not setting up separate polling booths for them.
Filing the writ petition through lawyers Mohib Kakakhel and Mahwish Mohib Kakakhel, the members of the transgender community took the plea that the officials, who were supposed to set up separate voting booths for them, flouted the court orders.
They said that action should be taken against the officials in the light of the court orders in this regard. They alleged that the members of the transgender community were not allowed to enter the polling stations on the election day, which disenfranchised them. A two-member bench of the high court will take up the petition.
