LAHORE: The caretaker Punjab chief minister has warned that some people are planning to carry out riots similar to those that occurred on May 9 of last year.
“While peaceful protests are everyone’s right, if incidents similar to those of May 9 are repeated, strict action will be taken,” While addressing the media in Lahore after inaugurating the expansion and upgrade project of the state-of-the-art medicine warehouse at Gurmangat Road, Gulberg, on Monday, he said that no one would be prevented from holding peaceful protests. He said that the decision to shut down mobile phone services in the country was made by the federal government, adding that his caretaker government had fulfilled its obligations during its tenure. He said anyone with objections to the election results can approach the relevant forums.
The CM emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards incidents similar to those of May 9 and said that the government is fully prepared to swiftly address any such occurrences.
