RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was on Saturday released from the Adiala Jail after acceptance of his bail in a case related to the May 9 riots. Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi Judge Malik Ijaz Asif accepted his bail.
The judge approved the bail against surety bonds of Rs200,000. During the hearing, the court ordered authorities to immediately release the AML chief if he was not wanted in any other case. The hearing was attended by Sh Rashid’s lawyer while no one appeared from the prosecution side. The judge expressed resentment over the absence of prosecution lawyer.
Talking to the media outside the jail, the former interior minister said he could not run his election campaign due to his detention.
