Karachi-based Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Najmi Alam has denounced what he says an attempt to use artificial intelligence to spread on social media a fake audio message attributed to him regarding the election in Karachi’s constituency NA-241.
In the audio message that went viral on social media on Saturday, a voice similar to that of Alam was heard criticising the victory of the PPP’s candidate, Mirza Ikhtar Baig, in NA-241 District South of Karachi comprising Clifton, Defence and Saddar areas.
Alam was the PPP’s candidate from the constituency PS-110, which is part of NA-241. In the audio message, the voice purportedly that of Alam was heard saying that the PPP’s candidate Baig could not secure victory from NA-241 when he had actually polled a smaller number of votes in the National Assembly constituency than the number of votes secured by the PPP candidate for PS-110.
