ISLAMABAD: China has showed great interest not only to develop Gwadar Port but also to improve the living standard of the people around the port.
China Overseas Holdings Limited (COHL) has donated Rs2 million to local schools to help them improve infrastructure and construction.
COHL has also donated Rs1 million to the Gwadar Hospital to upgrade medical facilities so that people can get best medical treatment in hospital.
COHL is now working with Gwadar Port Authority to launch a charity function soon in order to provide financial assistance to the local education sector, in particular the children from the poor families.
In 2012, China donated 2 million RMB (more than 300,000 US dollars) to the technology institute of Gwadar to support its efforts of upgrading technical facilities and equipment. Since COHL took over the management of Gwadar in May 2013, it has made great efforts to upgrade the port infrastructure and improve the operation of the port, which has created many job opportunities and boosted the local economy.
A delegation from Guangdong Logistics Association visited Gwadar in May 2014 and reached preliminary consensus with the local authorities to hold exhibition in Gwadar in the near future so as to improve the bilateral trade and commercial exchanges and cooperation.
Both Karamay of Xinjiang and Zhuhai of Guangdong are interested in establishing sister-city relation with Gwadar.
Right now construction of Gwadar Eastbay Expressway and Gwadar International Airport are under discussion. Tangible outcome will further boost the development of Gwadar.
