ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Germany have signed agreements for technical development cooperation projects totaling 45 million euros.
Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary, Economic Affairs of Pakistan, and Alfred Grannas, German Ambassador to Pakistan, witnessed the signing ceremony.
These agreements mark the beginning of new bilateral cooperation projects and are the result of a longstanding and trusting partnership between the two countries.
The newly commissioned projects align with German development cooperation thematic areas such as climate and energy, just transition, sustainable economic development, training and employment, health, social protection and population policy. Both ongoing and new projects adopt a holistic approach, building synergies for comprehensive solutions to effectively address complex and global challenges such as climate change and inclusion of vulnerable groups such as women and youth.
Both parties emphasised the significant efforts taken over the past decades. The impact of German development cooperation demonstrates successful cooperation targeting development sectors in need. Germany stands in solidarity with Pakistan.
Ambassador Alfred Grannas stated: “The German-Pakistani development cooperation has made significant contributions to the country. With the agreements signed today, we aim to continue our joint path towards a sustainable future in Pakistan. Recently, Svenja Schulze, our German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, emphasised that international cooperation not only helps others but also benefits us, as global problems can only be solved together.” Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed gratitude for the strong support received for technical development cooperation, highlighting its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country. German development cooperation has supported Pakistani government initiatives for over 60 years, working together with partners to advance their socio-economic reform agenda and contribute to sustainable, crisis-proof development. Therefore, cooperation focuses on core areas such as climate and energy, just transition, sustainable economic development, training and employment, health, social protection and population policy. This work contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and is implemented under Pakistan-German cooperation agreements.
