Punjab, Pakistan’s agricultural powerhouse, is experiencing a number of challenges that threaten its long-term stability. Water scarcity, worsened by poor irrigation and over-extraction, is having a substantial impact on both rural communities and agriculture.
Smallholder farmers also confront land fragmentation and restricted access to resources, which reduces productivity and income and climate change is increasing the workload, necessitating adaptation and resilience methods.
Despite these challenges, there is hope that diversification and value addition, together with sustainable practices and innovation, will help agricultural resilience and prosperity in the face of shifting agricultural dynamics.
