NOWSHERA: A leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Daud Khan Khattak, on Sunday quit his party and joined the PTI-Parliamentarians along with his family members and supporters.
Daud Khattak, who has served as nazim of the Nowshera district in the past, announced his decision at a press conference in the Nowshera Press Club. PTIP Chairman Pervez Khattak was present on the occasion.
Talking to the media, he unveiled his decision to quit the contest in favour of NA-34 candidate, Dr Imran Khattak, and PK-87 aspirant. Pervez Khattak.
Daud Khattak said he left PTI and joined the PTIP as he was convinced that the former had no future. “I have joined the Pervez Khattak caravan after careful deliberations”, he added.
Pervez Khattak said as many as 25 election candidates backed by the PTI were in contact with him.
“The real game will start after the general elections. I am on good terms with all political parties. “I will take a decision on an alliance at a proper time”, he said.
Later, speaking at the public meetings at Jalozai and Speen Khaak, the PTIP chief defended the conviction of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. He insisted that all legal requirements were met by the judge while handing down the sentence to the PTI founder and his wife in the case.
Pervez Khattak rejected the allegations of pre-poll rigging levelled against him by his rivals. “My rivals are trying to get cheap popularity by levelling such charges against me”, he said.
The PTIP chief recalled the development schemes he had launched in his home district of Nowshera in the past. “I not only launched the mega development projects but also completed them”, he reminded the people and asked them to vote his party candidates into power for progress and prosperity.
The other candidates of the party, including PK-89 aspirant Dr Imran Khattak, Ibrahim Khattak for PK-85, and PK-86 aspirant Ismail Khattak, and others addressed the public gatherings as well.
