Growers protest against wheat procurement policy
From Our Correspondent
BAHAWALPUR: Hundreds of wheat growers Monday staged a protest demonstration against the Punjab government’s wheat procurement policy.
The growers blocked the Bahawalpur-Khairpur-Tamiwali Road at Adda Israni and raised slogans against the Punjab Chief Minister and his government.
They staged a sit-in outside the Israni wheat procurement centre and demanded immediate farmer-friendly changes in the procurement policy.
During the protest, Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Furrukh Javed, PML-N Senator Chaudhry Saud Majeed and many other PML-N legislators and district administration functionaries were trapped on the road.
The growers ended their protest when Senator Saud assured them that their issues would be resolved on priority bases.
