Rs2.26bn recovered in housing scam

LAHORE : NAB Lahore DG Amjad Majeed Aulakh announced recovery of Rs2.26 billion in a housing scam.

Talking to the affectees in open court held at NAB here Friday, he said that the recovered amount would soon be distributed among around 2,300 affectees.

A large number of housing sector claimants and affectees attended the open court. The claimants include Pak-Arab Housing Society, Palm Vista Housing Society, Al-Rehman Garden (Phase-IV), Lahore Garden, Elite Town Housing Society, Ashrafi Town, Wapda Town Cooperative Housing Society, Kasur and affectees of SB Mall, Faisalabad.

The affectees of Palm Vista informed NAB Lahore DG that they were tricked by luring to purchase membership forms at exorbitant rates by the authorities concerned, however, Palm-Vista administration had also cheated general public in another project named Palm Villas.

The claimants of Ashrafi Town complained for subjected to alleged harassment and sale of bogus files by society administration. They pointed out the role of dealers (brokers) in hoodwinking people.

The affectees were informed that a trial was under way over reference filed by NAB Lahore.

The affectees of SB Mall, Faisalabad, were told that a total of 46 claims were received which required to be 100 (at least) and amounting to Rs500 million to meet the threshold.
